C. M. Velayudhan started CVM in Bangalore in 1971 with a conviction that India could export precision gears to the world. The business he built did.
Today CVM is led by three Executive Directors — Deepa C.V., Sandhya C.V. and Dhanya C.V. — making it a rare 100% woman-owned enterprise in Indian manufacturing.

C. M. Velayudhan establishes CVM Precision Products, specialising in automotive and industrial gears.
First export contracts to Germany. 70%+ exported through the 2000s; ~45% today as domestic business has grown.
All India and Regional awards from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, via the Engineering Export Promotion Council. Founder C. M. Velayudhan received the All-India Award for Export Excellence from Pranab Mukherjee, then Union Minister and later President of India.
Start of regular automotive-gear exports to BorgWarner (USA, later S. Korea). BorgWarner Transmission Systems award (Feb 2005) recognises CVM for the successful launch of the 45RFE Outer Race and 4L60 End Caps.
Operational leadership of CVM passes to Deepa, Sandhya and Dhanya C. V. as Executive Directors. The company becomes a 100% woman-owned manufacturing enterprise.
DRDO's Nishant unmanned aerial vehicle completes a successful test flight powered by an indigenous 55 hp Wankel engine. CVM fabricates and supplies the internal rotor gear and matching pinion.
Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre issues a letter of appreciation for CVM's contribution. National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR) follows in March 2014 with a second letter of appreciation, this time for the Nishant UAV gears.
